What inspired you to design the gown line?

After receiving my BA in fashion design in the mid-90′s, I opened a studio where I collaborated with local brides creating custom wedding gown and corset designs.  For the past few years, I’ve had a line that we have shown at NYC bridal market & sold in boutiques nationally.  After some serious soul searching about what works for my work/life balance and what brides are looking for with the current economy, I’ve decided to transition the collection into a good hybrid of the two business models.  I am incorporating the things I loved best from both worlds and combining them into something new & fresh.  Starting in October of this year, the Alisa Benay line will be only sold direct to brides through our online boutique & locally through Studio Wed Denver.  I’m excited about this transition because it means that I will now be working directly with my brides again, which is what I’ve always loved and have missed so much over the past couple of years.  It also means that my brides will now pay about 60% of salon prices (yay!) and still get the same amazing couture details I have always offered.  Brides can buy gowns as shown in my online boutique www.boutiquebenay.com  , or work with me to customize a gown from my line or to create a completely custom gown.  All the dresses in the online boutique can be made directly from the size chart, or with semi custom sizing options such as “open the cup” or “split size”, and all of the gowns are made to be easily altered if needed by a local seamstress in the bride’s area for a snug custom fit.  I am thrilled to be able to offer today’s savvy bride everything she wants all in one place: the dress, the fit, the details, and the price!

What inspires your designs?

I am very inspired by romantic vintage fashions and I love, love, love corsets.  My collection apples all the lovely feminine details of vintage gowns into wearing convenience and fit of modern gowns.  I love mixing up details with my gowns.  I’ll add french lace, a vintage inspired brooch, a hand made flower, or a corset back to a gown to give it my signature look.  My gowns are my babies, every time I design I new one I always say “Ooo, this is my new favorite!”

What is the price range of your designs?

Depending on the style, they range from $500 to $2000.  But most of the gowns in my collection are in the $900-$1400 range.  One of the advantages of working directly with a designer is that I can work with you on price.  If you have an $800 budget, but love one my gowns that is shown for $1300, I can show you some options on how we could make your dream gown fit in your budget.

Where can a bride get her hands on your gowns?

Through my online boutique www.boutiquebenay.comI work with my bride before purchase to make sure she feels extremely comfortable with purchasing her gown over the internet.  I send out fabric and lace swatches and will even send out a sample gown for the bride to see the quality of workmanship and details in the Alisa Benay collection.  I also currently have quite a large collection of sample and overstock gowns available for immediate shipment for the bride looking to save even more.

Is there anything else that you think our readers would be interested to know?

I also offer a full line of accessories including boleros, jewelry, head pieces, and veils.  Brides can purchase from the accessories collection to complete the look of an Alisa Benay gown, or to add the perfect touch to another gown as well.
