Farm to Table wedding concept

Right now is a great time to start thinking about supporting local growers and farms.  Think about asking your caterer to create a Farm to Table menu.

You’ll utilize as much seasonal produce, cheeses, meats and herbs as possible.  (All from local farms in the area you plan on hosting your event)  I love the colors and texture of heirloom tomatoes, the smell of fresh sage and the robust taste of freshly made pesto.  Ask your caterer which farms they are able to buy from.  Freshly grown produce means the quality will be better and the taste, absolutely incredible!  Many of the well-known caterers in Connecticut should be able to accommodate your every little requests.  (some of my favorites are: Emily’s Catering Group, Jordan Caterers, A Thyme to Cook, Gourmet Galley, Coastal Gourmet and The Whisk)  Maple syrup, honey and many other locally produced gourmet food products can be used and/or given as favors.  This will give a great taste of New England for traveling guests to take home and be reminded of the wonderful time they had at your wedding!

Roger’s OrchardsLet’s go beyond food and into decor.  There are a wide array of local farms you can get flowers from. First Bloom Farm is in Simsbury, Connecticut. They offer a great seasonal selection of annual cut flowers, herbs and foliage.  I love the idea of long farmhouse style tables (if you cannot afford the expense of farmhouse style tables, rent long rectangle tables, put a lush linen on top and add a piece of barn wood down the length.  This will create a similar look and not break the bank!).  Family style seating is a great way to entertain!

Re-utilize old Mason jars for centerpieces.  Stop at yard sales and flea markets to pick up a eclectic mix of old vases and have fun with your centerpieces.  You can also use beeswax candles or soy based candles to be environmentally friendly.
